Why Consider Sedation Dentistry

Electing to request sedation dentistry for your upcoming restorative or cosmetic dental treatments is a wonderful way to:

  • Complete all or most of your procedures in one day.
  • Calm nerves or anxiety related to dental care.
  • Sit through longer types of treatment or surgery (such as dental implant placement).
  • Access the level of care you know you deserve.

…or simply relax through a routine treatment, just because you can!

Your Experienced Dental Sedation Provider

Feeling confident in the training and experience of your provider is one of the most important steps to choosing the best sedation dentist for your needs. Our patients have entrusted us with their smiles for nearly 25 years, knowing that we go above and beyond when it comes to the safety of their families.

After meeting with you to discuss any concerns or treatment needs, we’ll talk through your level of comfort and discuss the type of dental sedation that’s most appropriate for your situation. You may prefer to be completely alert throughout the procedure, feel more like you’re daydreaming, or perhaps need the deepest type of anesthesia available.

Types of Sedation We Offer

Not all dental sedation is created equal. Each pose specific advantages to our patients to fit their individual needs and concerns. At Aesthetic and Implant Dentistry, we can facilitate varying levels of sedation based on the treatment that’s needed, length of procedure required, and the comfort level of each person we’re treating.

Some of the more popular types of sedation dentistry found in our south DFW cosmetic practice include:

Conscious Oral Sedation

Conscious sedation uses prescription strength medications to help you feel as if you’re in a dream-like state for a few hours, giving us ample time to complete your treatment. Although these sedatives tend to have an amnesic affect where you may not remember much of the appointment, you will be able to answer simple questions or instructions throughout the procedure.

Oral sedation medication is taken about an hour before the treatment is scheduled to begin. This timeframe provides ample opportunity for the sedative to take effect, at which point you may feel as if you’re taking a nap. It’s important to have someone accompany you to your appointment and drive you home afterward, as it can take some time for the sedative to fully wear off.

Porcelain Crowns

Nitrous Oxide (“Laughing Gas”)

Although nitrous oxide is a very light form of dental sedation, it is extremely effective and convenient for varying levels of anxiety. We recommend it during most treatments, as it tends to help you feel relaxed (which in turn allows us to work more efficiently.) The best part about laughing gas is that the effects are completely reversible within just a few minutes. There’s no need to have anyone else accompany you to the appointment!

Fixed Bridges

IV Sedation

In rare circumstances, we may need to have a licensed anesthesiologist or nurse anesthetist provide anesthesia medication though an intravenous (IV) line. Rather than have the procedure completed in a nearby hospital, the necessary medical staff come into our Midlothian practice and work alongside of us.

Are You a Candidate for Sedation Dentistry?

At Aesthetic and Implant Dentistry, our Midlothian sedation dentist will thoroughly review all of your medical history and current medications to ensure that you are a candidate for sedative procedures. We can also speak with your physician or specialist if a medical clearance is required.

As a premier provider of aesthetic and sedation dental services in DFW, we strive to treat each of our patients as if they were a member of our own family. If fear of the dentist is keeping you from achieving the level of oral health or smile you deserve, we invite you to contact our office in Midlothian to schedule an exam and consultation.
